Do you know as easy as it is to upload your organization’s data to the cloud, it’s as easy for that information to be breached?
Yes, taking precautionary measures is definitely important. Even before moving to the cloud security measures should be in place. In the world we live in today, new software, viruses are being developed by hackers to capture one’s information.
Therefore it’s up to YOU, whether you’re using The Cloud for personal use or business wise, it’s highly recommended that security is a top priority.
Below are Top 5 Tips to help keep your data protected!
1. Cloud Security Policies – This may be overlooked but it’s your duty to find out and also the cloud service provider to inform you on what security measures and policies they would be providing to you, if you were to choose their service. This is important as it allows you to decide whether or not the Cloud Service would be right for your business.
2. Encrypt Data – This is a major security step to take before uploading your data to the Cloud. Encrypting your data would only allow you, the end user, access to the files (creating strong passwords). Most Cloud providers would provide encrypting services, but it’s just an additional safety measure you can take to ensure it’s protected.
3. Back up – Backing up your data is extremely important. It may be a little costly but it’s worth it. Backing up would help if your data was destroyed and or corrupted. You can store your data manually (hard drives) or you can store it using another cloud storage. It’s strongly advised that you do both.
4. Strong Passwords – As easy as this may seem or as much as you’ve heard about it, creating an incredibly strong password can really help protect your data. Strong passwords should include numbers, letters as well as symbols. Additionally, another option which is strongly recommended would be to frequently change your passwords at least once a month, preventing your information being hacked.
5. Test – As much security measures that you have implemented, it’s always advisable that you constantly test to be sure that your files are inaccessible. This may be a little time consuming, but it’s necessary.
